Selecting A Bed Liner for Your Pickup Truck

Posted on

If you have just bought a pickup truck, you will soon enjoy being able to haul items around in the bed with ease. If you plan on using the truck to haul, having a bed liner in place will protect the metal from becoming scraped, thereby leading to rusting as a result. Here are some of the types of bed liners available, helping you to choose which would be best for your specific needs.

Drop-in Liner

A drop-in liner is made from heavy-duty plastic and is usually placed professionally. It is bolted into place, giving you the peace of mind that it will not separate from your truck bed while driving. The plastic is slippery, making it easy to slide larger items across the length of your truck for easy loading and unloading. The downside of this type of truck bed liner is that if it is placed while the truck bed is wet, the moisture will be trapped underneath, causing rusting to occur.

Spray-on Liner

If you would like to have a permanent lining in your truck's bed, a spray-on liner will give you the desired results for an inexpensive price tag. To apply, simply spray in the same manner as your would coat something with spray paint. The liner will dry and add a layer of cushioning that does not alter the contour of the bed in any way. This is a great method to give your bed the protection needed while maintaining the original look of your truck.

Roll-on liner gives the same benefits, but is a little more difficult to apply. To apply, dip a small paint roller in the lining substance and roll into place, making sure to get all cracks and crevices covered. Both spray-on and roll-on liners are resistant to scratching and offers great protection from rust and erosion. If you are looking for something a bit different, opt for tinted coloring, allowing you to give your truck a custom look.

Bed Mats

Using a bed mat in your truck's bed will offer you protection for the bed floor, but will not help in protecting the interior walls. The upside is that you can place the mat inside when it is needed and remove it when you do not wish to have it present. Bed mats are made from rubber or polypropylene and will give your truck bed a surface that cannot be penetrated. If you are low on funds, carpet remnants can be used as bed mats. These can be cut to fit at a carpet supply store and are inexpensive enough to replace when needed.
